Haikou

Located at latitude 19 ° 57'04" - 20° 05'11", longitude 110° 10'18 "- 110° 23'05", Haikou City is on the south of Qiongzhou strait, 18 nautical miles away from Hai’an Town in Guangdong province. It is on the north of Qiongshan County and on the northeast of Chengmai County.

Haikou is the capital of Hainan Province, and the political, cultural, economic and traffic center of Hainan province. It is located on the west of the estuary of Nandu River – the largest river in Hainan Province. There are various famous tourist attractions, such as the Temple of the Five Lords which is known as the most famous ancestral hall in Hainan Province, the Cemetery of Hai Rui, an upright official of Ming Dynasty, the beautiful Holiday Beach, the renowned Qiongtai Academy, Ma’anshan Crater Park, and the marvelous Dongzhaigang Mangrove Nature Reserve.

In recent years, many new tourist attractions have been built in Haikou City, such as the famous Memorial Hall of Martyr Li Shaoxun, Xiuying Fort Barbette, People’s Park, Wanlvyuan Garden, Holiday Beach, Tropical Seaworld Park, Shishan Crater Scenic Spot, etc, which marks that Haikou has become a comprehensive multifunctional tropical coastal tourism resort.


Scenic Spots
Shishan Volcanic Cluster National Geological Park

Haikou Shishan Volcanic Cluster National Geological Park lies in Shishan Town, southwest Haikou City, merely 15km from Haikou downtown. It has sound eco-environment, unique geographic landscape and rich geological resources. It is one of the few Holocene epoch (10,000 years ago) inactive volcano clusters in China, which has great value in terms of scientific research, science popularization, and tourism. The Park has become a AAAA grade scenic spot in China, a world geological park, and a national geological park.

The park has abundant high quality mineral water and thermal spring resources. Tropical primeval forests can be seen in the park which is known as the “Green Lung” of Haikou city. Some ancient houses are also open to the visitors. It was approved to become the National Geological Park in January 2004.


Haikou Century Bridge

Haikou Century Bridge links the main part of Haikou city to Haidian Island, a district separated from Hainan Island by Nandu River. The bridge is 2,663.606 meters in total length and 29.8 meters in width and is available for automobiles and pedestrians.

Haikou Century Bridge project started in 1998 and was completed in 2003. The expense on the project was said to be around RMB 660 million.
